Not what's pictured (I wish). Spoiler after jump.
That's right, a Ford Focus SVT. Cheap, stick, parts should be easy to find since its a Focus, slow enough that my parents approve, safe enough that they also approve, a great exhaust note, a fun little motor, and most important of all, fantastic handling. Apparently in a period-correct Car and Driver test, it was quicker through the cone slalom than a Ferrari 355 or a Porsche GT2.
So does anyone have any advice/know the cars well? I'm not in any rush to sell the Audi, but I figured I might as well start learning in the meantime. Do you guys think its a good choice, or should I go for something else?

Seems like a great choice to me. I had a friend with one, and while it wasn't fast, it was fun as hell. I remember seeing it on a Car and Driver article where it was called a great performance bargain. Go for it!

The SVT Focus is pretty cool. They did make it in a 4-door hatch also. The non-SVT ZX5 Focus isn't bad either.
Other good choices include the Mazda Protege5, Toyota Matrix XRS/Corolla XRS/Pontiac Vibe GT.
What is your budget?

Other *average* choices include the Mazda Protege5, Toyota Matrix XRS/Corolla XRS/Pontiac Vibe GT.
There, fixed it for ya.

An SVT Focus is slow enough that your parents are happy with it?
You guys are so damn lucky. Living in a world devoid of 1.1l hatchbacks.
